Roleplaying?

I've added this section since I noticed that more and more players do behave in Tibia like in a single-player off-line game:
They're only trying to get the best "highscore".
Well, there's no rule against this. But Tibia will become very boring soon, even if you do "interact" with other players by killing them.
Still reading? Good! Welcome to "Advanced Tibia"!
To "roleplay" in Tibia, you'll have to think of Tibia as a never-ending book or movie, playing in medieval times in a country that's filled
with magic, dragons, legends, demons and heroes. And you're going to be one of the heroes!
It's all up to you: Do you want to become a magician, a warrior, a merchant, a baker, a fisherman, a priest, a teacher, an explorer, ...?
E.g., even though you might be a fat, dull, lazy, male human in real life, you can play an elfish woman, proficient with magic.
And as an elf, you might want to team up with other elfs to hunt some dragons.
Of course you may choose the life of a warrior instead - always wandering around to prevent to those stupids elfs from becoming a dragon's lunch ;-)
Stop! Would your warrior really rescue those elfs? Or would he be "the bad guy", waiting until the battle is over, killing and robbing the survivors?
Well, that's your descision! And that's what's roleplaying is about: You're the descision-maker - and you can do everything as long as it fits into the setting and rules of Tibia!
Of course you should stick to your role and even think about it before creating your character:
E.g. "John Slowfarmer" probably wouldn't be the name of your choice, when you want to become a warrior. And "Joe Strongfist" might be better suited for a knight than for a sorcerer.
You might even want to show your character's attitude in its name: E.g. will "Bill Blackknight" be a good, lawfull citizen?
And if you want to play a good character your first deed in the game shouldn't be stealing somebody else's goldcoins.
But how do I become a merchant? I only found four "vocations" - and a merchant isn't listed!
- Well, the answer is quite simple: Some items are only available in Edron and not all players want their characters to go the long way from Thais to Edron.
So just choose the vocation "knight" (as a merchant, you'll have to defend yourself), earn some coins to start with, rent a shop in Thais, go to Edron, buy those items and then go back to Thais, open your shop and sell them!
But what about being a "priest"? - Become a druid and wait for other players who want their characters to get married, divorced, blessed, cured, ... .

A good start: Tibia's Genesis includes a lot information about the races, gods, ... At the roleplaysection at www.tibia.de you can found many stories about such actions.

Some final words about roleplaying in Tibia: Tibia is just a game! Don't take it too serious and don't be disappointed when the other players just "want to level their chars" instead of interacting with you. And don't worry too much when the others are only answering a "c u" to your "Farewell, ol' friend!" - they don't want to annoy you, they're just lazy!
